Personalized Fortune Cookies – Write the Perfect Sayings

a210_c3If you Wrote Fortune Cookie Sayings, What would they be?

Fortune cookies have become inextricably linked with American-Asian food and have infiltrated into popular culture as well. Customized fortune cookies are sent to family and friends for fun. They are often used to propose marriage to a special person. Advertising agencies use them in their campaigns. Fortune cookies, contrary to popular beliefs, are as American today as baseball and apple pies.

Have you been given a fortune cookie while visiting a Chinese restaurant? Chances are that you have wondered about how they manage to slip in that piece of paper into the cookie.

If you have never seen a fortune cookie, let me describe what they are like. They are small, firm golden colored cookies small enough to fit into your palm. What makes them unique is that they are folded in a butterfly shape to create a pocket which holds a ½ x 2” strip of paper “fortune”.

Are you planning to write funny fortunes? It is great fun to write funny and humorous fortunes for fortune cookies especially meant for friends. Write the fortune using your imagination, knowledge of the nature of the recipient and lastly keep the meaning precise and crystal clear.

* Keep in mind your friend’s personality.

When writing a fortune for your friend, keep in mind his or her nature, likes and dislikes.

* Predict fortunes that will take place at the event.

If you have organized a party for friends and plan to serve fortune cookies during the party, then you can write humorous fortunes foreseeing events that take place in the course of the party.

* Write separate fortunes for each visitor.

If you can make the time, writing individual fortunes for your guests is a great idea. Figure out one wish that each of your guests want and tuck that into their cookies. Watch the fun bubbling over during the party as they read their fortunes.

* Convert humorous fortunes into an entertaining game.

Make each fortune in a cookie a command and play a game with fortune cookies at your party. If a person’s fortune reads: wish the birthday girl mimicking a popular star, then that person will have to perform the task.

* Insert tongue twisters in the guise of fortunes.

One rib-tickling idea would be to inscribe the fortunes with tongue twisters. Your guests at a party would have to read out aloud their tongue twisters while eating the cookie. What fun!

* Concise and clear sentence construction.

If the meaning is unclear or the phrase is too long-winded the fortune will cease to be interesting. So remember this during composition. Most fortune cookie fortunes need to be kept to about 22 words max.

* Be equivocal.

If you want to predict some funny, exciting yet likely event, write a generalized fortune. For instance “you will meet an interesting person today” or “tomorrow promises to be an eventful day.” You can’t go wrong with these.

* Rhyming fortune message.

Phrasing the fortune in the form of say a rhyming couplet is a simple yet ingenious touch.

So just abide by the basic guidelines and let your imagination run riot.
