Personalized Fortune Cookies – Write the Perfect Sayings

a210_c3If you Wrote Fortune Cookie Sayings, What would they be?

Fortune cookies have become inextricably linked with American-Asian food and have infiltrated into popular culture as well. Customized fortune cookies are sent to family and friends for fun. They are often used to propose marriage to a special person. Advertising agencies use them in their campaigns. Fortune cookies, contrary to popular beliefs, are as American today as baseball and apple pies.

Have you been given a fortune cookie while visiting a Chinese restaurant? Chances are that you have wondered about how they manage to slip in that piece of paper into the cookie.

If you have never seen a fortune cookie, let me describe what they are like. They are small, firm golden colored cookies small enough to fit into your palm. What makes them unique is that they are folded in a butterfly shape to create a pocket which holds a ½ x 2” strip of paper “fortune”.

Are you planning to write funny fortunes? It is great fun to write funny and humorous fortunes for fortune cookies especially meant for friends. Write the fortune using your imagination, knowledge of the nature of the recipient and lastly keep the meaning precise and crystal clear.

* Keep in mind your friend’s personality.

When writing a fortune for your friend, keep in mind his or her nature, likes and dislikes.

* Predict fortunes that will take place at the event.

If you have organized a party for friends and plan to serve fortune cookies during the party, then you can write humorous fortunes foreseeing events that take place in the course of the party.

* Write separate fortunes for each visitor.

If you can make the time, writing individual fortunes for your guests is a great idea. Figure out one wish that each of your guests want and tuck that into their cookies. Watch the fun bubbling over during the party as they read their fortunes.

* Convert humorous fortunes into an entertaining game.

Make each fortune in a cookie a command and play a game with fortune cookies at your party. If a person’s fortune reads: wish the birthday girl mimicking a popular star, then that person will have to perform the task.

* Insert tongue twisters in the guise of fortunes.

One rib-tickling idea would be to inscribe the fortunes with tongue twisters. Your guests at a party would have to read out aloud their tongue twisters while eating the cookie. What fun!

* Concise and clear sentence construction.

If the meaning is unclear or the phrase is too long-winded the fortune will cease to be interesting. So remember this during composition. Most fortune cookie fortunes need to be kept to about 22 words max.

* Be equivocal.

If you want to predict some funny, exciting yet likely event, write a generalized fortune. For instance “you will meet an interesting person today” or “tomorrow promises to be an eventful day.” You can’t go wrong with these.

* Rhyming fortune message.

Phrasing the fortune in the form of say a rhyming couplet is a simple yet ingenious touch.

So just abide by the basic guidelines and let your imagination run riot.

Mardi Gras Celebration Ideas

Mardi Gras King Cake

Mardi Gras King Cake

Since I brought a very large King Cake into the office today, and have been munching on it throughout the day, I am doing a Mardi Gras post. Happy Fat Tuesday!!!!!

Here are some fun and unique ideas to incorporate into any Mardi Gras celebration.

Try a unique invite to your party. Sometimes especially on festive occasions, you need a unique invite for your guests. Consider personalized fortune cookies as a unique way to send out your invites. Fancy Fortune Cookies even has Mardi Gras colors in fortune cookies. Yellow is a Lemon cookie, Green can be Mint, and Purple is a Fruit Punch flavor.

Since the cookies come with your sayings inside, you can write the info for your party. When, Where, RSVP, and Dress!

If you don’t think they are the right invite, then consider using them at your party. They can be filled with fun stuff to inspire conversation – like at a mixer. Or even fun Mardi Gras facts! You can even use them as little take-home favors for all of your guests.

Maybe you aren’t throwing the party but have been invited and don’t want

to show up empty handed. Perhaps you need to send a fun thank you gift. A giant Mardi Gras fortune cookie with a custom message inside makes a great gift for the host or hostess.

The Giant Mardi Gras Fortune cookie even makes a great centerpiece. If you are having a costume competition then it can even be a prize for the winner.

There you have it, Mardi Gras custom fortune cookies.

Now go eat some king cake.

What to Look for When Shopping for Fortune Cookies

Drawing of a Small Fortune Cookie Oven

Drawing of a Small Fortune Cookie Oven

Type “fortune cookies” into google and you will get over 2.5 MILLION results! That just boggles my mind. Do we really need 2.5 million pages on the internet that talk about fortune cookies???

And with those kind of results, how do you figure out where to purchase your fortune cookie gifts?? How do you know what you are sending is going to be fresh and actually taste great?? And if you are ordering a giant fortune cookie, how can you be sure it will arrive in one piece??

Would you buy a pie that was stale and bland? Or doughnuts that have sat uncovered in a warehouse for weeks on end?

Here are some tips to help you make the most informed decision possible.

  1. Does this company bake their own cookies? If you don’t want your gift to tasted like the stale, bland, cardboard like fortune cookies you get in Chinese restaurants, THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION YOU COULD ASK! If it isn’t fresh, it isn’t gourmet.
  2. Does this company use real chocolate, or confectioners coating? Real chocolate is easy to fake – in a photo. But when you taste it, you will know if it is confectioners coating, which is code for NOT REAL CHOCOLATE and terrible tasting.
  3. Is this company a Better Business Bureau member, and if not, WHY NOT? Any one can do business online, and make up anything they want to. They can lie. They can present mis-information. And they can take advantage of the uneducated buyer.

If you are looking to purchase fortune cookies, personalized, giant, or just fortune cookie gifts, get educated before you buy.

  • If they aren’t baking their own cookies, then your “tasty gift” is sitting in a warehouse, unwrapped, getting stale.
  • If they aren’t baking their own cookies, they have no control of the ingredients or facility that is baking your cookies.
  • If they aren’t using REAL chocolate, with real coco-butter, why are you paying for real chocolate, and why are they claiming they have a great tasting product?
  • If they aren’t BBB members, then they could be lying to you.

Here is an interesting checklist on fortune cookie companies. If you want to know more about where your fortune cookies are coming from check it out.

Love Them Up – Keep Them Forever

Received this great feedback from a customer today who also did a post about great customer service on her blog. Lori’s company is “Love Them Up & Keep Them Forever.” And judging by the content of her blog all on Customer Service Through Connection, she has a lot of useful skills and advice to offer individuals and business owners.

What do you think is going to differentiate you and your company from all the other businesses and sales people offering the same things???

Customer Service

Right now the only thing that is going to differentiate and put you one step above your competition is your level of customer service. You may get a customer to be your customer one time through mediocre service, but you won’t keep your customer as a customer for very long.

Here is a link to Love Them Up & Keep Them Forever.

Keeping your customers coming to you again and again is the most valuable long term investment you can make. It’s the LIFETIME value of the client that matters. You can’t be depending on the one time transaction.

Here is Lori’s response to the survey she writes about in her blog:

Hi Erin ~ I’m so sorry that I neglected to respond to your survey. I was so pleased to receive it that I wrote about it on my customer service blog at It’s a great example of how to let customers know you care about their needs and to get the much-needed feedback that helps you keep things running smoothly. The fortune cookies worked out wonderfully for us. We didn’t use them for an event, we used them for a promotion. I’m a big fan of “guerilla marketing” and the cookies went out with a video demo reel of our tv studio’s work. Our clients have responded wonderfully and I’ll personally send you a sample of how we used them. Thank you so much for your lovely follow up. Take care, Lori Jo Vest Managing Director Communicore Visual Communications Check out our youtube channel at

Thank your clients! Once you bond and actually get the transaction, it’s little things that make the difference. Send a thank you note. If it’s a big deal, send them a little gift. And make it something that will stand out and really be noticed. Like personalized fortune cookies. Or a giant fortune cookie. Give them a reason to want to do business with you again, and again and again and again.

That’s the only way to build a successful business and keep it from failing.

Chinese New Year Fortune Cookie Favors

When is Chinese New Year? This year Chinese New Year falls on January 26th so you still have time to find some great favors for your celebration.

2009 is the year of the Ox, which I find highly ironic due to the current economic state of the US, China and the World. What will the year of the Ox bring us?

Great Drawing from

Great Drawing from

• The Ox is the sign of prosperity through fortitude and hard work.
• The Ox is unswervingly patient, tireless in their work, and capable of enduring any amount of hardship without complaint.
• The Ox is not extravagant, and the thought of living off credit cards or being in debt makes them nervous.
• Ox people are truthful and sincere, and the idea of wheeling and dealing in a competitive world is distasteful to them. They are rarely driven by the prospect of financial gain.

Pretty interesting, huh? So in order to be prosperous this year it’s going to take hard work and perseverance, you might go through some hardship and have to keep on going, should be living light and lean, and your main focus should be how can I help those around me.

Whew. I would venture to say, maybe the current economy is a much needed breath of fresh air!

On that note, let me give you guys some good ideas for Chinese New Year sayings and fortune cookie fortunes.
